Mirjam Kay Mashkour, genannt MKAY, wurde 1992 in Aachen geboren. Als Teenager schrieb sie erste journalistische Texte und die Novelle School of Chaos, welche sie später im Selbstverlag veröffentlichte. Ihr Debütroman wird 2024 im LeeBooks Verlag erscheinen.
Am Literaturinstitut Hildesheim studierte MKAY Kreatives Schreiben, Kulturjournalismus, Kulturpolitik und Medien. Nach Studienaufenthalten in Rom und Hamburg absolvierte sie in Bologna, Italien, den Master of Laws in europäischer Politik- und Rechtswissenschaft. Neben ihrem Studium war MKAY unter anderem als Journalistin in Hannover, Berlin und Köln tätig, hielt sich mit teils absurden Gelegenheitsjobs (z.B. als Messehostess) über Wasser, nahm an Textwerkstätten teil, veröffentlichte in Anthologien und Literaturzeitschriften.
MKAY schreibt gesellschaftskritische Prosa und Songs, Gegenwartsliteratur, Dystopien, Satiren und Cyberpunk. Sie setzt sich über vom Literaturbetrieb diktierte Grenzen hinweg, indem sie Genres, Hoch- und Unterhaltungsliteratur sowie verschiedene Kunstformen miteinander vermischt.
Außerdem organisiert MKAY Veranstaltungen in der freien Kulturszene ihrer Heimatregion, kümmert sich um die Kommunikations- und Pressearbeit autonomer Gruppen und ist aktives Mitglied des Literaturbüros Euregio Maas-Rhein.

Mirjam Kay Mashkour, or MKAY for short, is an author and activist from Aachen, Germany. As a teenager, she wrote her first journalistic articles and the novella School of Chaos, which she later self-published. Her debut novel will be published by LeeBooks in 2024.
MKAY studied creative writing, cultural journalism, cultural policy as well as media at the Hildesheim Literature Institute. She also holds an LL.M. degree in European politics and law from the University of Bologna, Italy. To finance her education and travels, MKAY worked in various jobs, e.g. at a motor show, an airport, a bookshop, and a piercing studio. As a journalist she wrote for newspapers in Hanover, Berlin and Cologne. She took part in writers’ workshops, reading shows, and published her stories in anthologies as well as literature magazines.
MKAY writes socio-critical prose and songs, contemporary literature, dystopias, satires, and cyberpunk. She defies the strict boundaries of the German entertainment industry by mixing genres, ‘light’ and ‘high’ fiction, and various art forms.
MKAY also organises events in the autonomous cultural scene of her home region, helps various anarchist-antifascist-femininist groups with press releases and communication, and she is an active member of the Euregio Maas-Rhine literary office.
